ไมเคิล เฟลป์ส ฉลามหนุ่ม ทีมชาติสหรัฐอเมริกา ทำสถิติคว้า 7 เหรียญทองในโอลิมปิกครั้งเดียว เท่ากับ มาร์ค สปิตช์ ฉลามตำนาน จากชาติ เดียวกัน ได้สำเร็จ หลังเร่งเครื่อง ในช่วงท้าย เฉือนชนะอันดับ 2 ไปเพียงแค่ 0.01 วินาทีเท่านั้น ในการ ว่ายประเภทผีเสื้อ 100 เมตรชาย
ศึกชิงความเป็นเจ้าสระโอลิมปิกเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 29 ณ กรุงปักกิ่ง ประเทศสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน จัดกันที่ ศูนย์กีฬาทางน้ำแห่งชาติ เมื่อช่วงเช้า ของวันที่ 16 สิงหาคม ที่ผ่านมา
มีการแข่งขัน ในประเภทผีเสื้อ 100 เมตร ชายรอบชิงชนะเลิศ “ไมเคิล เฟลป์ส” ที่ตั้งเป้า เป็นนักกีฬาคนแรก ที่คว้า 8 เหรียญทอง ใน โอลิมปิก ครั้งเดียว ลงไล่ล่าเหรียญทอง ที่ 7 ให้กับตัวเอง
ผลปรากฏว่าใน ช่องว่ายที่ 5 “ฉลามเฟลป์ส” ที่ตามหลังมาโดยตลอด ในช่วง 50 เมตรแรก มาเร่งความเร็ว ในช่วงท้าย ว่ายแตะขอบสระ เป็นคนแรก แบบเฉียดฉิว ต้องดู ภาพช้า โดย เฟลป์ส เข้ามาเป็น อันดับที่ 1 ด้วยเวลา 50.58 วินาที เฉือนชนะ มิโลราด คาวิค จาก เซอร์เบีย ที่นำมาโดยตลอด แต่กลับแพ้ไปเพียงแค่ 0.01 วินาที อย่างเหลือเชื่อ โดยเข้ามาด้วยเวลา 50.59 วินาที ขณะที่อันดับ 3 ตกเป็นของ แอนดริว ลูเทอร์สไตน์ จากออสเตรเลีย ทำเวลา 51.12 วินาที
ทั้งนี้ถือเป็นการว่ายรายการแรก ที่ เฟลป์ส ไม่สามารถทำลายสถิติโลกได้ อย่างไรก็ตาม จากการคว้าเหรียญทองที่ 7 ให้กับตัวเอง ทำให้ตอนนี้ เฟลป์ส ทำสถิติเทียบเท่า มาร์ค สปิตช์ ตำนานนักว่ายน้ำมะกัน ที่เคยทำไว้ใน มิวนิคเกมส์ (ค.ศ 1972) เมื่อ 36 ปีที่แล้ว
นอกจากนี้ เฟลป์ส ยังกล่าวถึงความรู้สึก ตอนที่ต่อยน้ำ ด้วยความสะใจ หลังรู้ว่าตนเองชนะได้ ด้วย การเฉือนไป เพียงแค่ 0.01 วินาที
“เมื่อผมเห็นตัวเลข 50.58 กับ 50.59 ผมชักเริ่มใจไม่ดี แต่ทันใดนั้น ผมก็เห็นชื่อตัวเอง อยู่ในอันดับ 1 เท่านั้นแหละ ผมก็ตะโกนดีใจดังลั่น ตลอดจนรู้สึกอะไรหลายๆ อย่าง ทั้งโล่งใจ และตื่นเต้น ไปพร้อมๆ กัน การชนะ เพียงแค่ 0.01 วินาที มันห่างกันน้อยมาก แต่เมื่อสุดท้าย ผมชนะ มันก็ยอดเยี่ยมไปเลย”
ทั้งนี้ แม้ทาง เซอร์เบีย จะประท้วงขอให้ มิโลราด คาวิค ที่แพ้ไปเพียง 0.01 วินาที ได้ครอง เหรียญทอง ร่วมกับ เฟลป์ส ทว่าองค์กรยักษ์ แห่งวงการว่ายน้ำอย่าง ฟีนา (FINA) ก็ได้ตัดสินอย่างเด็ดขาดว่า ใครเข้าที่ 1 และ 2 หลังดูเทปการแข่งขัน
“เรารับฟังข้อร้องเรียน ตามกฏ ที่มีอยู่แล้ว” เบน อีคัมโบ กรรมการสนาม กล่าว “ผมดูจากภาพช้าแล้ว และขอยืนยันว่า นักว่ายจาก เซอร์เบียเข้าทีหลัง ไมเคิล เฟลป์ส อย่างแน่นอน”
ขณะที่ ในเอเธนส์เกมส์ เมื่อ 4 ปีที่แล้ว เฟลป์ส ทำได้เพียง 6 เหรียญทอง แต่กับ ปักกิ่งเกมส์ ในครั้งนี้คว้าไปแล้ว 7 เหรียญทองจาก ประเภทผีเสื้อ 100 เมตร, ผีเสื้อ 200 เมตร, เดี่ยวผสม 200 เมตร, เดี่ยวผสม 400 เมตร, ฟรีสไตล์ 200 เมตร, ผลัดฟรีสไตล์ 4×100 เมตร และ ผลัดฟรีสไตล์ 4×200 เมตร รวมถึงทำลายสถิติโลก ไป 6 รายการ
สำหรับโปรแกรม การว่ายรายการสุดท้าย ของ เฟลป์ส คือในประเภท ผลัดผสม 4×100 เมตร ชาย รอบชิงชนะเลิศ วันพรุ่งนี้ ที่ 17 สิงหาคมนี้ เวลา 09.58 น. (ตามเวลาประเทศไทย)

วานนี้ (15 ส.ค.) ไมเคิล เฟลป์ส ฉลามหนุ่ม จากสหรัฐฯ ก็คว้าเหรียญทองที่ 6 ของตัวเองใน โอลิมปิก 2008 ที่กรุงปักกิ่ง สาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน หลังแหวกกระแสน้ำเข้าเป็นอันดับ 1 ในประเภทเดี่ยวผสม 200 เมตรชาย พร้อมทำลายสถิติโลก ในรายการนี้ ด้วย และ เป็นการทำลายสถิติโลก ว่ายน้ำ ประเภทที่ 6 คือ ทุกเหรียญ ที่เขาได้มา ด้วยการสร้างสถิติ ใหม่ให้ โอลิมปิก ด้วย
เฟลป์ส คว้ามาแล้ว 5 เหรียญทอง โดยเป้าหมายใน ปักกิ่ง เกมส์ ครั้งนี้คือ ทำสถิติคว้า 8 เหรียญทอง ล่าสุดขยับใกล้ความจริง เข้าไปทุกขณะ เมื่อคว้า เหรียญทองเดี่ยวผสม 200 เมตรชาย ที่เวลา 1 นาที 54.23 วินาที ทำลายสถิติโลกเดิมของตัวเองคือ 1 นาที 54.80 วินาที
สำหรับเหรียญเงิน ตกเป็นของ ลาสซ์โล เซสห์ จากฮังการี เข้ามาที่เวลา 1 นาที 56.52 วินาที ถือเป็นสถิติ ยุโรปใหม่ และ เหรียญทองแดง ตกเป็นของ ไรอัน ลอชเต นักว่ายน้ำ จากสหรัฐฯ อีกหนึ่งราย เข้ามาที่เวลา 1 นาที 56.53 วินาที

(BEIJING, August 16) — American Michael Phelps overcame the one man left in the field of challengers who could have stopped his charge towards eight gold medals in the Men’s 100m Butterfly on Saturday at the National Aquatics Center

Defending Olympic champion and world champion Phelps, who had qualified second fastest for the final, realized at the 50m mark he had a huge battle on his hands when Serbian Milorad Cavic touched first, 0.09 seconds under the world record.

Phelps and Cavic battled it out in the last 50m. A monumental upset looked to be approaching – until Phelps dug deep and out-touched Cavic on the wall.

Phelps won in an Olympic record time of 50.58, to take his tally of gold medals to seven, but only just, and by the slimmest of margins – 0.01 seconds.

Milorad Cavic said after the semifinals he could beat Phelps after qualifying fastest for the final, but finished with the silver medal in a time of 50.59.

Australia’s Andrew Lauterstein capped a great series of swims in the heats and semifinals to win the bronze medal in 51.12.
But world record holder Ian Crocker (USA), who has been breathing down Phelps’ neck this year with some threatening times, only arrived in fourth place with a time of 51.13.

Men’s 200m Individual Medley: Phelps chalks up sixth gold

(BEIJING, August 15) — Michael Phelps continued his attack on winning a record eight gold medals on Friday pocketing his sixth at the National Aquatics Center, this time in the 200m Individual Medley.
He swam yet another world record, shaving 0.57 seconds off the mark he set at the US trials in July this year

Phelps was never in trouble and led comfortably throughout, touching the wall in 1:54.23.
The field stayed with Phelps during the Backstroke and Butterfly legs but the defending Olympic champion took the lead during the Breaststroke leg and pulled away in the final 50 meters of Freestyle.
Phelps has dominated every event he has entered, including the 400m Individual Medley.

Hungarian Laszlo Cseh put in another great performance, again edging out Phelps’ teammate Ryan Lochte to win the silver medal in a European record time of 1:56.52.
Cseh now has a pair of silver medals from the Individual Medley events after finishing second to Phelps in Sunday’s Men’s 400m Individual Medley.
With only 10 minutes to recover after winning the gold in the 200m Backstroke, Lochte could only manage the bronze medal in a time of 1:56.53, just one hundredth of a second behind Cseh.
Lochte now has a pair of bronze medals in the Individual Medley events after finishing third in Sunday’s 400m Individual Medley.
